Spray Tanning FAQs

How Does A Spray Tan Work?

Look Amazing. Man Woman Spray Tan

  • A Spray Tan solution contains bronzers and natural sugars (either DHA [Dihydroxyacetone] or E [Erythrulose])¬† that react with the protein in the skin’s surface layers, resulting in a browning effect.
  • Our technician will apply the tanning solution to clean skin (free of lotions, perfumes and deodorants) in a fine mist. This application process allows for even, steak-free distribution, resulting in a natural looking tan. It takes the solution about 5-10 minutes to dry.
  • The tan will need to process for 8 hours before showering. If well-cared for, your tan can last for 7-10 days!

Will My Spray Tan Be Orange?

Nope! The main cause of orange spray tans is the use of a solution that is too dark. At FaceFrame, we know that one solution does not fit everyone. Although an Airbrush Spray Tan is not necessarily the same color as a natural sun tan, you will have a natural-looking tan because our technician will choose a suitable solution for you.

How To Prepare For Spray Tan

  • Exfoliate your skin with a nylon mesh puff or exfoliating gloves. Do not use heavily moisturizing scrubs or soaps.
  • Come to the salon with clean skin – no lotion, deodorant, or make-up!
  • For the application, wear an older bathing suit or undergarments – clothes you are not concerned about staining.
  • On your way out, we recommend wearing loose, dark clothing and sandals.

How To Care For Spray Tan

  • Do not shower for 8 hours after your appointment. Washing your hands, manicures/pedicures, and any activity that might cause sweating should be avoided during this time.
  • After 8 hours you may shower; the bronzer will come off and tan will be left behind. It’s important to moisturize your skin at this point to maintain your tan!
  • Using moisturizer twice daily will extend the life of your tan. Avoid exfoliating your skin.
  • Spray tans typically last 7-10 days. The chemical make-up of an individual’s skin and the speed at which it sheds will effect the life of the tan.
  • Fading can be caused by the potential bleaching effects of hot tubs, swimming pools, chlorine, salt water and some cosmetics.
